Tango – that is, the dance – is an interesting globalized phenomenon nowadays and keeps attracting people from many different countries. People often, wisely, say that tango is not about the steps many lessons and (festival) workshops seem to be focused on, but about things such as ”the embrace”, ”the connection”, ”the walk”, ”musicality” etcetera. I agree with these viewpoints, but I have always felt that some people forget that tango is above all a profound musical culture, that may be hard to understand for many dancers outside Argentina/Uruguay. It certainly takes a lot of effort to  do active research on tango lyrics, especially if you don’t grasp a word of Spanish.

My interest for ”tango” has always been more focused on the music than on the dance itself. I am completely obsessed with tango music and the aim of this blog is not only to translate lyrics, but also to propagate certain songs and orchestras, even songs that may not be so suitable for dancing. I am doing this in order to help people progress in their own personal quests of discovering tango music. I feel inspired by Derrick del Pilar’s words about careful translating – I hope I will be able to avoid publishing too literal translations and respect the original poetry of the lyrics I am trying to present to my readers. I will also, probably, occasionally write down some thoughts about certain themes in tango, with more focus on the music than the dance itself, something that is already being done succesfully by various blogs.
